Az-Zahra News: April 2008

By | April 18, 2008

Assalaamu ‘Alaikum to all.  This is the first newsletter of the year.  Through this newsletter, we plan on sharing the progress and information relating to our center.  We hope you and your family will Insha’All-h benefit from this media.

First thing first.  Can you take a moment and think of a name for the newsletter?  I have a few names that I like, including just the good old “Az-Zahra News“.  If you have one, please send it to my attention.  The results of the contest will Insha’All-h be announced on May 4th, 2008.  Watch for the winner.

Spring is one of my favorite seasons.  I like the grass getting greener and trees budding with color all around us.  We must take a moment and thank All-h(swt) for His bounties and blessings.  One good way to celebrate spring is to visit the center regularly.  We plan on having picnics and other fun-filled family gatherings.  If you have an idea for an activity, please send us your suggestions.  The program committee is always looking for new ideas to help get families together and have good times.

We have a GREAT family fun evening planned for Saturday, April 26th.   It’s called the Family Pizza-Movie night.  All you have to do is make sure that you have purchased a ticket for the dandy night.  We guarantee that your family will have lots of fun.  If you come on time, your child will also be able to help with the pizza preparation.  Oh yeah!  That will be fun, alright.  Besides pizza, you will have two movies, ice cream, and pop corn.  All for a small price.

Ticket:
$5.00 per person, ages 10 years and older,
$3:00 for ages 3 to 10 years old.

Time: 6pm – 10 pm.

We have a BBQ picnic planned for May.  We will let you know when we finalize the date and time.

If you have a child between the ages of 6 and 16, please register him/her in our weekend school.  It is free!  Some of the classes currently being offered include Farsi, Deeniyat, Islamic History, and Qur’an reading.   The teachers are working hard to impart Islamic based education.  We also teach the kids to say their salat (namaz).  You should see the little angels during the salat times.  There are very few situations more pleasing to our eyes than see a child trying to please All-h(swt).

We are collecting the membership dues for 2008.  If you have not yet paid your dues, please fill out the form and mail in with your check today.  You may also drop off the completed form when you visit the center on Sundays.  Remember, membership has advantages.

Health tip of the month

Drink plenty of fluids, preferably fewer cups of caffeinated drinks.  If you go for a walk or jog, please carry a bottle of water with you.  Stop and drink fluids several times during your exercise.

Also eat fresh fruits and vegetables.  If you are fortunate to have a back yard or pots try to grow your own veggies.  You will see the difference in taste when compared to the ones you purchase from grocery stores.  Not to mention the money you may save in the process.

Send your suggestions to Br. Jameel Agha, at mj_agha@yahoo.com
